The walk starts in Darwin's CBD, where the streets themselves are a record of the city's past. Your guide points out buildings still in use today that connect to Darwin's early years, and public artworks scattered throughout the route. You'll see the former open-air cinema (one of the few original structures that survived Cyclone Tracy) now converted to a retail space but still carrying its historic features in the details your guide will explain. A building that's anchored Darwin's social culture for over a century gets its stories told as you pass, and the ruins of the Old Palmerston Town Hall stand as a visible reminder of the pioneers who shaped the city.

The walk moves through beautifully restored heritage buildings and their gardens that capture early Darwin life, now used as offices for the Administrator of the Northern Territory. Parliament House, a grand building overlooking Darwin Harbour, is where you'll learn about the self-governing modern city. The route ends at Bicentennial Park, which sits above the harbour and holds many layers (early Darwin sites, WWII remnants, pre-Cyclone Tracy history), and you may spot local birdlife among the green space.

The tour runs for around 2 hours and operates in all weather, so bring a hat, sunscreen, camera and water. Good enclosed non-slip walking shoes are recommended. Wheelchair users can join. All areas and surfaces are accessible. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and infants can ride in a pram or stroller. A minimum of two people is needed for the tour to run.
