The experience

You start at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm in the early morning, where the crew meets you before the Ohana departs. Breakfast comes as you cruise past the Buccaneer Archipelago (Hidden Island, Silica Beach, Cockatoo Island, Koolan Island), and the ancient rock formations of the Kimberley. The guide points out flying fish, sea eagles, dolphins, turtles, and occasionally humpback whales as the boat heads toward Talbot Bay. The crew shares stories about the region's history and the traditional Dambeemangarddee people who are the land's custodians.

At Talbot Bay, you transfer to tender vessels for the approach to Horizontal Falls. The falls are a natural tidal phenomenon, ever changing depending on the tide, and the operator cannot guarantee the flow will be dramatic on arrival, but the formation itself is always there to see. You do not traverse the gap between the rock walls due to safety and cultural reasons. After the time at the falls, you return to the Ohana for a 7-course feast of Western Australian seafood and locally sourced ingredients, each dish prepared with care while you take in the views and continue learning from the guide about the region's unique geography.

The return journey to Cygnet Bay gives you time to reflect on the day. WiFi is available on board, and restroom facilities are provided throughout. Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are included. The minimum age for alcohol is 18. The tour suits all fitness levels and runs approximately 10 hours from start to finish.

Is this one for you?Small groups and families with children from age 4 travel together on the Ohana, so you share the day with other travelers rather than booking a private vessel. The fixed itinerary and the chef's multi-course meal mean the day is structured around dining and the tidal window at Horizontal Falls, which suits travelers who want the experience organized for them rather than self-directed.
