Where the Rainforest Drops Into the Ocean

You're picked up from your Port Douglas accommodation and driven north along the Great Barrier Reef Drive to Wildlife Habitat, where you hand-feed kangaroos and spot endangered cassowaries. Then you cross the Daintree River by cable ferry, walk through rainforest trails, stop at Alexandra Lookout for the view, and board a crocodile cruise on the river itself. The Experience

The Great Barrier Reef Drive unfolds in front of you as the coach climbs north from Port Douglas, and somewhere around the second curve you realize you're not just driving through Queensland — you're entering a place that exists nowhere else on Earth. Cape Tribulation is where two ancient worlds collide: the Daintree Rainforest, one of the oldest in the world, meets the reef. Your guide points this out early, and it stays with you the whole day because you can actually see it happen. The road narrows, the canopy closes in, and then suddenly there's the ocean again, turquoise and waiting.

The day starts at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, where you'll see cassowaries — those prehistoric-looking flightless birds that locals treat with genuine respect — and Lumholtz's tree kangaroos hanging in the branches like they're defying gravity.
