The experience
The tour starts at the Surf Shop in the middle of Byron Bay, where you'll meet your guide before heading to the Brunswick River. Once there, you'll begin with safety information and the fundamentals: how to stand on the board, control it, execute proper strokes and turns, and position your body for stability. The instruction covers entry and exit from the water so you can manage the board confidently. All of this happens in the first part of the session, setting you up to actually paddle rather than struggle.
Once you're on the water, the Brunswick River opens up around you: a natural landscape where dolphins, fish, seabirds and sea turtles actually show up. You're not watching them from a distance. You're moving through their space on the board. The tour is built for any fitness level, so the pace isn't punishing. It's about getting comfortable on the water and noticing what's there. Wetsuits or rashies and sunscreen are provided, and the guide stays with the group the whole time.
The round-trip transfer from central Byron Bay means you don't need to figure out how to get yourself and a paddle board to the river. You show up at the shop, get collected, and return the same way. Professional equipment is included, so you're not renting or bringing your own. The whole experience runs 2.5 hours from start to finish.
