The experience
Three hours takes you through Broome's layered history on a route built around the town's defining landmarks. You'll see Cable Beach and hear the stories behind its name and the people who shaped it, then move to Gantheaume Point, where red rock formations rise above the Indian Ocean and you can walk the white sand beach if the tide allows. The guide shares indigenous stories and painting traditions tied to the site, and you get refreshing cold towels and water. From there the route moves to the Jetty and Wharf, where Roebuck Bay's wildlife and the dinosaur footprints (visible when the tide is right) come into view.
The Japanese Cemetery is the largest outside Japan, and the tour pauses there to take in the carved headstones and the serenity of the site. Town Beach follows, with its turquoise water, red dirt and mangroves, plus the new WWII bombings art installation and the Staircase to the Moon lookout. Chinatown rounds out the main stops, where you'll see the pearling history, the oldest buildings, Streeters Jetty and Sun Pictures, the world's oldest operating open-air picture garden. The whole route stays flexible: your guide tailors the stops and timing to what interests you most.
You travel in a luxury air-conditioned 4WD with a local guide who knows Broome's stories firsthand. Bottled water and snacks are included. If you want to go deeper, you can add a live pearl harvest experience or a visit to the Broome Historical Museum at checkout. Pickup is included, and the tour works for all fitness levels.
