You climb above the Brisbane River and see the city from a perspective most visitors never reach.

The Story Bridge Adventure Climb is a guided 90-minute climb up Brisbane's iconic bridge to 80 metres, led by local guides who share the city's history and culture while you take in 360-degree views. Children from age 6 are welcome with an adult, and the climb operates in most weather conditions including rain. A minimum height of 110cm and maximum weight of 130kg apply; the experience is fully wheelchair accessible.

The Experience

You start at Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane's riverfront precinct, where your local Climb Leader meets your group. The climb itself takes around 90 minutes and covers the ascent, the time spent at the top taking in views, and the descent. Your guide is not just narrating facts — these are entertainers, historians, photographers and comedians who know Brisbane inside out and treat the climb as a chance to connect with people and share what makes the city tick. You'll hear stories about Brisbane's landmarks, culture and history as you make your way up, and the 360-degree views from the top stretch across the city skyline, Moreton Bay, the Scenic Rim and beyond.

The climb is fully accessible — it's the world's first fully accessible bridge climb — and suitable for all fitness levels. Children as young as 6 can join if accompanied by an adult (one adult per three children minimum), and the experience welcomes solo travellers, couples, families, cruise passengers and corporate groups. You'll need to pass a breath alcohol test registering under 0.05 to proceed; a minimum height of 110cm and maximum weight of 130kg apply. The climb runs in most weather, including wet conditions, so rain doesn't shut it down. Included in your climb are the local guide, one large group photo, a Story Bridge Adventure Climb cap as a souvenir, and a safety demonstration before you start.

Day climbs and night climbs run at different times throughout the day and evening, so you can choose the slot that fits your schedule. Additional photos taken during the climb are available for purchase if you want more keepsakes. The wharves themselves are worth exploring before or after — award-winning restaurants, bars and live music venues line the precinct, so you can build a full afternoon or evening around the climb.
