The experience
If you're arriving by train or have a free afternoon on Sydney's south coast, the skydive starts at Albion Park Station, where you'll be picked up and driven to Shellharbour Airport. The whole experience runs about an hour from start to finish. You'll board the aircraft, climb to altitude while taking in the views, then step out into the rush of freefall: speeds exceed 120 mph, and the silence of the jump gives way to wind roar for the full 60 seconds you're falling.
Once the parachute opens, the pace shifts. You'll spend 5 to 7 minutes under canopy, descending with views of Shell Cove Marina, Kiama, Bushrangers Bay and Bass Point spreading out below. The landing happens on the beach at The Shallows Coastal Reserve, next to Bass Point Reserve and Shellharbour Marina. A rare touch that lets you touch down on sand instead of a drop zone. After landing, you'll be driven back to Albion Park Station.
The jump is personalized to your experience level, and a live guide in English walks you through the whole process. A 3-month membership with the Australian Parachute Federation and compulsory personal accident insurance are included in the price. The activity is suitable for all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with cardiovascular concerns.
