The experience
Two and a half hours on a Segway means you cover ground most walkers miss. After a training session and safety briefing, you'll glide through Albany Heritage Park past the restored 1893 forts precinct and the National ANZAC Centre, then up to Convoy Lookout. The Avenue of Honour comes next: a chance to pause and take in the memorial before moving on to Apex Lookout, where Middleton Beach and Lake Seppings open up below you.
The real draw is what sits between the lookouts. You'll pass Point King Lighthouse Ruins and stop at Plantagenet Battery, a 19th-century coastal defense installation tucked away on the hillside but easy to reach by Segway. From the panoramic vantage points over King George Sound and Middleton Bay, you might spot migrating humpback and Southern Right whales during whale-watching season: the lookouts give you height and stillness to watch for them. Then the route drops: you glide past Albany Surf Life Saving Club and onto the timber-decked boardwalk into Ellen Cove, finishing on the squeaky white sand of Binalup (Middleton Beach).
Your guide is local and speaks English. The tour includes a helmet, vest, water and a rain poncho if the weather turns. The pace is steady but not strenuous: Segways do the work once you've got the balance. Children from age 12 can join.

Is this one for you?The 2.5-hour pace means you're moving steadily but not rushing, which is what lets the route fit in the heritage sites, the lookouts and the beach without feeling crammed. If you want to cover the park's highlights and still have time to stand on the sand, this timing works. If you prefer a slower walk through one or two stops, a shorter outing would suit you better.
Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (12 to 17 years). Children under 12 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the Plantagenet Battery and why stop there?
Plantagenet Battery is a 19th-century coastal defense installation hidden on the hillside above Albany. It's tucked away enough that most visitors never see it, but the Segway route makes it an easy detour, and the stop gives you a close look at one of the area's oldest structures without the walk most tourists face.
Can I see whales on this tour?
Migrating humpback and Southern Right whales pass through King George Sound during whale-watching season, and the tour stops at several panoramic lookouts over the sound and Middleton Bay where you have a good vantage point to spot them. Sightings are not guaranteed, but the height and stillness of the lookouts give you a real chance.
Do I need Segway experience to book this?
No. The tour includes a full safety and training session before you start, so you'll learn to balance and glide before heading into Albany Heritage Park. The guide covers everything you need to know.
What happens if the weather is bad?
A rain poncho is included if you need one, so light rain doesn't stop the tour. Check with the operator about severe weather cancellations closer to your booking date.
How much walking is involved?
Almost none. You ride the Segway for the full 2.5 hours, stopping at lookouts and heritage sites to take in the views and history. The only walking is the brief training session at the start and dismounting at the beach at the end.
