Summary

Scooter Adventure in Agnes & 1770: Beach Hopping Your Way

Set out on your own scooter ride through Agnes Water and 1770—learn from locals, spot kangaroos along quiet roads, feel the ocean breeze as you beach hop at your own pace, and end up somewhere unexpected for sunset. It’s a few hours of freedom you’ll remember long after you hand back the keys.

experience

What’s the experience like?

The first thing I remember is the salty air hitting my face as I wobbled out of the lot — helmet a bit crooked, nerves jangling. The guy who handed me the scooter (I think his name was Dave?) grinned and said, “Don’t worry, you’ll get it in a minute.” He showed me around their little track out back, which honestly helped more than I expected. My hands were shaking but in that good way, like before you jump into cold water.

I took off down the main street of Agnes Water, engine humming under me, and it felt weirdly freeing not to have to think about parking or traffic. There’s this stretch near the bakery where you can smell coffee drifting out, and I almost stopped just for that. Instead I kept going — past surfers rinsing off by their vans, then up toward 1770 where the road gets quieter and you start seeing more gum trees than people. Somewhere near the headland I spotted two kangaroos lazing in someone’s front yard. They didn’t even flinch when I rolled by. Guess scooters aren’t that scary.

I’d planned to beach hop but ended up taking random turns through back streets just because I could. The wind kept changing — sometimes warm, sometimes with that sharp tang from the seaweed drying on rocks. At one point my phone lost signal (Dave had warned me only Telstra works properly here), so I just put it away and listened to the cicadas instead. I found this little lookout over Bustard Bay right before sunset — not marked or anything — and sat there until the sky went pink-orange behind all those mangroves. Still think about that view sometimes when things get too noisy back home.
