The experience
You arrive in Hobart with a week to spare, and this tour handles the route: it leaves from your hotel and returns you there seven days later, having traced both coasts and the mountain interior without you needing to drive or plan the stops. The itinerary moves through Mount Field National Park's Tall Trees walk and Russell Falls on day one, then west into the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers and down to Strahan on the edge of the World Heritage Area. Days two and three explore the West Coast's 40-kilometre Ocean Beach, vast sand dunes, and the Gordon River rainforest (the river cruise is optional and at your own cost). From there the route turns inland and east, climbing into Cradle Mountain for one of Tasmania's premier nature walks, then descending to Launceston.
The second half swings through the northeast coast: Cataract Gorge Reserve near Launceston, the Bay of Fires' white sand and orange granite boulders, and Freycinet National Park, where you arrive early to beat the crowds at Wineglass Bay. A lookout walk gives panoramic views. You can relax on the beach, climb Mount Amos, or walk the shoreline depending on your pace that day. The route then turns south toward Hobart, stopping at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to meet Tasmanian devils, quolls, wombats and kangaroos, and at Richmond Village, where more than fifty Georgian buildings line the streets as cafes, galleries and restaurants. Wellington Park on Hobart's doorstep closes the loop with walks through fern glades and eucalyptus forest to lookouts over the city. On the final day, Port Arthur Historic Site and the Tasman Peninsula's geological formations (Tasman Arch, Devil's Kitchen, The Blowhole, and Remarkable Cave) anchor the end before the return to Hobart.
The tour includes six nights accommodation, entry to all national parks, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, and Port Arthur Historic Site with its guided tour and harbour cruise. A live guide leads throughout. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Hobart CBD are included. The operator describes this as an eco-certified tour, and several of Tasmania's Great Short Walks are woven through the seven days. You'll walk among some of the world's tallest trees, cruise into a temperate rainforest, and stand on beaches where the next landfall is South America, over 10,000 kilometres away.
