The experience
You arrive at Kari's house greeted with a mocktail and Caribbean music playing in the background. She introduces herself and walks through the history of Caribbean foodways: Jamaica, Aruba, the islands that shaped the menu you'll cook that day. Then you gather around her kitchen island and get assigned to different tasks: some people prep ingredients, others handle the stovetop, everyone moves through the work together. This is family-style cooking, not restaurant technique. The kind of food made in Caribbean homes, with the rhythms and the talk and the laughter that go with it. The Caribbean home is a sacred space, usually open only to family, and you're getting rare access to that.
As you cook, you'll make at least one starter, at least one main with a side, and at least one drink. All the ingredients are provided, along with the pots, pans and utensils you need. If you have allergies, let Kari know when you book (note: this is not a nut-free kitchen). She also accommodates Caribbean keto dishes if you request that at booking. The guide speaks English throughout, and the whole class runs 2.5 hours from arrival to the table.
Once the food is cooked, you sit down and eat together. This is the part people come back for, not just the recipes, but the intimacy of the experience, the sense of having stepped into a real Caribbean kitchen and a real Caribbean life.

Is this one for you?You do the cooking yourself (chopping, stirring, tasting) under guidance, so this suits anyone who wants to learn by doing rather than watching a demonstration. The shared format means you're cooking alongside other guests in an intimate home setting, which works best for people who enjoy that kind of social, hands-on experience over a private lesson.
