Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Explore Aruba's natural and cultural highlights

  • See Coral Natural Bridge
  • Visit Alto Vista Chapel
  • View granite boulders formations
  • Tour Aruba Aloe Factory and Museum

“You ever seen rocks like this?” our guide, Miguel, grinned as we scrambled up the Casibari boulders. I had to laugh because honestly, I hadn’t — the granite felt warm under my hands and there were these weird shapes everywhere, almost like someone had stacked them for fun. The sun was already sharp but there was this breeze that made it all feel lighter. A couple of iguanas darted out when we got too close (I jumped, everyone else pretended not to notice). Miguel pointed out where you could see the coast in the distance — he said locals sometimes come here at sunset with beers. Not sure if he was joking or inviting us.

After that we wound through dusty roads to Alto Vista Chapel. It’s small, almost shy-looking on its little hill, but inside it was cool and smelled faintly of old wood and candles. There was a woman praying quietly in the front pew; I tried not to stare but it made me think about how old this place is (1750!). Miguel told us how people walk here during Holy Week — barefoot sometimes — which sounds intense in this heat. The view from outside is just open sky and cactus fields rolling down toward the sea. I didn’t expect to feel so calm there.

The Natural Bridge wasn’t what I pictured — more wild than postcard-perfect, with waves crashing right underneath where we stood. You could taste salt in the air and hear nothing but water and wind for a minute. We all took photos but honestly, standing there was better than any picture. Last stop: Aruba Aloe Factory & Museum. The smell hit me first — sort of green and clean? We watched workers slice open thick aloe leaves (I tried a sample lotion; still have some in my bag). Miguel explained how important aloe is here — not just for tourists but for locals too. He joked that if you live in Aruba long enough you start using it for everything except coffee.
