The experience
The day starts early in Mendoza city and moves into the Cacheuta mountains along the Pan American Route. You trek the Virgin trail for roughly three hours, walking through the region's flora and landscape while a guide explains the history of the place. A viewpoint partway through opens onto the valley below. Then you switch to rappelling gear (helmet, harness, descender, rope and carabiners), and make three descents down a water dump: 13 meters, 10 meters, and 30 meters. The adrenaline comes from the height and the water flowing around you as you lower yourself down.
Around 1pm you arrive at Villa de Cacheuta and have time to walk around and eat if you want. The core of the afternoon is the thermal pools at Parque de Agua Termas de Cacheuta, where you can soak in the natural hot water surrounded by the mountains. You can stay until the park closes at 6pm or leave earlier. Water, hydrating drinks and snacks (fruit, cereal bars, nuts and candies) are provided throughout the day, and a professional guide stays with you in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
