The experience

The day starts with a boat departure from Punta Bandera and a navigation into the Seno Mayo, the wettest sector of the park where the forest vegetation differs from the rest of the reserve. At Bahía Toro, you walk roughly 700 meters on flat ground through Patagonian Andean forest with the guide, reaching a waterfall while hanging glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro rise across the lake. The walk is low difficulty and takes about an hour before you return to the boat.

The second stop is Cerro Negro, where a medium-difficulty hike of about 1,000 meters follows a river deeper into the forest. You approach the base of Cerro Negro itself and stand in front of the Black Glacier, a hanging glacier that feeds the waterfalls and river you've been walking alongside. After time to observe the landscape, you return to the boat for the sail toward Perito Moreno. Lunch (a box lunch you bring) happens on board as you navigate the Canal de los Empanos.

The boat then moves slowly in front of Perito Moreno Glacier's northern wall before docking at Puerto Perito Moreno. You disembark with the guide and walk the boardwalks positioned directly across from the glacier face, with free time to move between the different viewing platforms. Once the guide signals the return, you re-board and sail back to Punta Bandera, arriving after 11 hours total.
