Four ziplines strung across the Patagonian steppe, not a chairlift or a platform tower

Zipline down four lines totaling 2,920 meters in El Calafate, descending from Mount Huyliche to Estancia Huyliche ranch. You ascend by 4x4 vehicle to the Calafate Balconies for views of Lake Argentino and the Andes, then choose your descent: a 4x4 route down the south face, a 90-minute guided trek down the north face, or the zipline circuit. Harness and helmet are included; lunch and a glass of wine follow at the ranch. Weight limits are 40–100 kg; the full outing takes around 4 hours.

Step-by-step itinerary

Panoramic views at Calafate Balcony

  • Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Argentino
  • Choose descent mode: 4x4, trekking, or zipline
  • Descend to old Huyliche ranch house
  • Have lunch, snack, or dinner

The Experience

The day starts with a 4x4 ascent to Mount Huyliche, climbing to the Calafate Balconies—a panoramic point overlooking Lake Argentino, the Andes and the Patagonian Continental Ice. From there, the descent splits three ways. The zipline option runs you through four consecutive lines covering 2,920 meters total, with harness and helmet provided. The lines descend the face of the mountain toward Estancia Huyliche, an old ranch house at the base where the day ends. If you pick the trek instead, it's a 90-minute guided walk down the north face with views of the lake and access to caves along the route. The 4x4 descent takes the south face, passing the Stone Labyrinth and Patagonian steppe before arriving at the same ranch.

Lunch, a snack or dinner—depending on what time you booked—waits at Estancia Huyliche, and a glass of wine is included. The guide speaks English or Spanish. Pickup is included, and children from age 5 are welcome. You need at least moderate fitness; the activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Weight on the zipline must fall between 40 and 100 kg.

What’s included

Operated by SOUTHROAD

Is this one for you?Choose the zipline if you want the rush of a long descent with views—the four lines cover more distance than a single drop, and the ranch meal afterward gives you time to settle before heading back. The 90-minute trek suits anyone who prefers walking and wants to explore the caves; the 4x4 option works if you'd rather stay in the vehicle and see the Stone Labyrinth from the south face.

Can I choose a different way down the mountain if I don't want to zipline?

Yes—you pick one descent method at booking. The 4x4 route takes the south face past the Stone Labyrinth; the trekking option is a 90-minute guided walk down the north face with lake views and cave access. All three end at the ranch for lunch.

What's included in the price for the zipline option?

The zipline includes harness and helmet, the 4x4 ascent to Mount Huyliche, lunch or snack with a glass of wine at the ranch, and a guide in English or Spanish. Pickup is included.

How long does the whole experience take?

The full outing takes around 4 hours from pickup to the end of lunch at Estancia Huyliche.

Is this activity suitable for children?

Children are welcome from age 5. The zipline has a minimum weight of 40 kg, so younger or smaller children may not meet the requirement. Moderate fitness is needed for all three descent options.
