The experience
You leave from Marina Punta Chica aboard a 26-foot sailboat and head into the Luján River, where the water color and the view of Buenos Aires from the river are not what you see from the streets. The boat holds a maximum of four people, so there is no crowd and no shouting over a group. Along the way, the guide explains the ritual of mate, the traditional Argentine infusion, and you taste it with shelled peanuts while the boat moves.
Once you have sailed far enough, the crew sets up a charcoal nautical grill on deck and cooks choripán (a grilled Argentine sausage) with bread dressed in chimichurri sauce. You eat it with a glass of Argentine Malbec wine, and the tango plays, not recorded background music, but the guide talking through the different tangos, their authors, singers and orchestras. For dessert, dulce de leche closes the meal. If you eat vegetarian, the crew can grill pizza instead of the sausage, and they will adapt any other restrictions you tell them in advance.
