The experience
The tour departs Salta each morning between 7:00 and 7:45 am from your hotel or accommodation within a 15-block radius of the main plaza. Day one heads south to Cafayat along Route 68, traveling through the Calchaquí Valley and the Quebrada de las Conchas: a 90-kilometer ravine with multiple stops at rock formations and mountain views. You'll visit Devil's Throat, walk through the natural formation, tour a winery, and have free time in Cafayat for lunch and the main plaza before returning to Salta around 6:30 pm.
Day two takes you west toward Cachi, climbing through the Quebrada del Escoipe and stopping at Bishop's Slope and the Tin Tin Straight Line for photographs and landscape views. Los Cardones National Park gets 30 to 45 minutes on foot, then Cachi town offers two hours free: one for lunch of your choice and one to walk around. Day three heads north to Salinas Grandes, starting with a stop at Purmamarca's Mirador del Cerro de 7 Colores, then ascending the Cuesta de Lipan to 4,720 meters. The salt flats themselves allow time to explore. Optional visits to the Piletones and Ojo de Mar cost extra and require group agreement. You return to Purmamarca for an hour each to eat and browse the artisan market before heading back to Salta.
Day four explores the Humahuaca Ravine and the town of Purmamarca again, with an hour free in each location for lunch and sightseeing. A stop at the panoramic point shows the "painter's palette hill" on the way. All four days include an air-conditioned vehicle and a guide speaking English or Spanish. Travel insurance is covered. You return to Salta the same evening, so no overnight accommodation is required unless you choose to stay at a destination.
