The experience

The tour starts with a 2-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Salta, where you settle into your hotel and have a full day to wander the colonial city on your own: its plazas, churches and markets are built around the architecture that made Salta distinctive. The next morning, a guide picks you up for the drive south through the Lerma Valley toward Cafayate, passing tobacco plantations and small towns. In Cafayate itself, you visit a winery where a sommelier leads the tasting and explains the vineyard's particulars, then you have time to eat and explore the village markets. The return journey follows Las Conchas Gorge, with a stop at Posta de las Cabras, a goat cheese producer, before dropping you back at the hotel.

Day three departs at 7:00am for the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a full-day loop through villages and landmarks. You start in Purmamarca to see the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Colors Hill) and visit the church and artisan market, then move on to Tilcara to tour the Archeological Museum and the Pucará, indigenous ruins built on a hilltop. The route continues through Huacalera at the Tropic of Capricorn, then into Humahuaca itself, where you see the Cathedral and the Monument to Independence before lunch. On the return, you pass the Paleta del Pintor rock formation near Maimará, arriving back at the hotel around 8:00pm.

Your final morning is a transfer from the hotel to the airport for the flight back to Buenos Aires. The package covers all flights, 3 nights in a 3-star hotel with breakfast included, the guide throughout the two touring days, and all transport by coach. Each traveler can bring one suitcase (33 lb maximum) and one carry-on bag. Oversized luggage may have restrictions, so confirm with the operator before travel. You'll need your passport details at booking, and the operator notes that rates don't apply to special dates like Christmas, New Year's Eve, Carnival, Easter, or national holidays.

Is this one for you?The 4-day length gives you a full free day in Salta itself plus two complete touring days through wine country and the Quebrada: enough time to see the major landmarks without rushing, but short enough to fit into a longer Argentina trip. If you want just the Cafayate wine region or just the Humahuaca valley, a 2-day version exists. This one combines both.

What exactly is the Cerro de los Siete Colores in Purmamarca?

The Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Colors Hill) is a striped mountain formation near the town of Purmamarca in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Its layers of mineral deposits create bands of different colors (red, orange, yellow, green and purple among them), and you see it during the day-three tour through the valley.

Your first day is free. After the morning flight and transfer to your hotel, you have the rest of the day to explore Salta's colonial architecture, plazas, churches and markets on your own pace. The guided tours begin the following morning.

You have time for lunch in Cafayate during the wine tour day, but you arrange and pay for it yourself. The winery tasting is guided by a sommelier and included.
