The experience
You meet your guide at 7pm on Gjuhadol Street and walk into Shkodra's historic center on foot. The route takes you through Kole Idromeno Street, the city's main pedestrian promenade lined with colorful buildings and local cafés, past the Catholic Cathedral and its Diocesan Museum, and through the neighborhoods where your guide points out the layers of the city's past. This is not a museum tour. You're moving through the streets where people actually live and gather, and the guide fills in the stories as you walk.
At 8pm you arrive at a traditional Shkodran garden for dinner. The meal starts with a spread of up to 20 appetizers, then moves to a traditional soup called çorbe. For the main course you choose between stuffed peppers with rice and meat, Imam Bajalldi (eggplants baked with onions and dried tomatoes), Tave Kosi (lamb in yogurt sauce), Tave Krapi (baked carp), or meatballs in broth. Dessert is Tespixhe, a traditional sweet. Drinks include water, a welcome homemade drink, and a shot of raki, the local spirit. The guide stays with the group through the meal and afterward offers tips on where to go if you want to explore Shkodra by night.
The tour is shared, so you'll be eating and walking with other travelers. Your guide speaks English and knows the city well enough to answer questions that come up as you move through it. The whole evening, from the meeting point to the end of dinner, takes roughly three hours, and travel time between the walking section and the garden is built into that.
