The experience
You arrive at the gorge and gear up: 5mm wetsuit with hood, wetsuit socks, helmet and harness. The guide leads you into the watercourse itself, not a path alongside it, but the streambed. You'll scramble up waterfalls, wade and swim through pools, duck under and climb over boulders, and work your way down rocky sections. It's a physical activity that asks for moderate fitness, but the guide paces it so families and mixed-ability groups move together. The scrambling is the whole point: you're not hiking to a waterfall to look at it, you're moving through the water itself.
This is canyoning pitched as an introduction to the sport rather than an extreme version. If you're after bigger jumps, slides and abseils, the operator runs a separate Extreme Canyoning option. The standard gorge scramble is built around the scrambling, the pools and the waterfalls: the challenges come from the terrain and the water, not from height or technical climbing. Children from age 8 upward do this regularly. Under-18s need a parent or guardian with them.
The guide is live and speaks English. Wetsuits, socks, helmet, harness and buoyancy aid (if needed) are all supplied. Photos and videos are taken during the activity and given to you free. Afterward, there's water, Coca-Cola, beer and cake. The whole outing runs 3 hours. Pregnant travelers should sit this one out, and you'll want to be comfortable with sustained physical effort in water and over uneven ground.

What exactly is gorge scrambling and how is it different from canyoning?
Gorge scrambling, also called ghyll scrambling or canyoning depending on the region, means scrambling up a watercourse full of waterfalls, pools, boulders and rocky walls. You move through the water itself rather than alongside it, working your way up and down the streambed. This version focuses on the scrambling and the water obstacles rather than on jumps and abseils.
What gear do I need to bring, and what's supplied?
The operator supplies 5mm wetsuits with hood, wetsuit socks, helmet, harness and buoyancy aid if required. Bring swimwear underneath and water shoes or old trainers with grip. The scrambling itself is 3 hours. Afterward, the guide provides water, soft drinks, beer and cake. Photos and videos taken during the activity are given to you free.
