The experience

The app does the planning for you. Instead of a guidebook or a fixed itinerary, you get GPS navigation that nudges you off the beaten track toward places you'd likely miss alone. As you visit destinations and solve the treasure hunt clues, you earn points: the more you explore, the higher you climb in the Travel League, where you compete against other explorers across the UK and win seasonal prizes. The app works whether you're driving through the countryside, walking around town or hiking. You move at your own pace and choose which of the hundreds of map pins to visit.

One ticket covers your whole family or group as long as you share a single device, which keeps the cost down for larger parties. You have total flexibility: start whenever suits your day, take as long as you want, and cancel free up to 24 hours before if plans change. The app is built for all ages and fitness levels, so kids can play alongside adults, and there's no pressure to hit every destination or finish in a set time.

Is this one for you? This is a self-guided experience you navigate yourself using the app, not a tour with a guide leading you to set stops. It suits anyone who wants to explore independently, set their own route and pace, and discover places they might miss on a standard tour, and it works for families and groups sharing one device to keep costs down.

Top questions

Can I use the app on my phone or do I need to rent a device?

You use your own smartphone. The app works on one device per ticket, so your group shares that single phone or tablet as you explore together.

What happens if I don't have mobile data or GPS signal while I'm out?

The app uses GPS technology to guide you, so you'll need a working signal in the areas you explore. Public transportation options are available nearby if you need them, and the app displays all the map pins upfront so you can plan your route.

Do I have to visit all the destinations or can I pick and choose?

You explore at your own pace and choose which destinations to visit. With hundreds of map pins available, you can attempt to visit them all or enjoy the journey however you prefer. There's no requirement to complete everything.

What's included in the ticket and what do I need to pay for separately?

The ticket covers access to the Hidden Gems Treasure Hunt and self-guided tour via the Loquiz app for one day with anytime start. Conwy Castle entrance fees and parking are not included and would be separate if you choose to visit them.

How long does the experience take?

The app is designed for around four hours, but you set the pace. You can spend more or less time depending on how many destinations you visit and how long you linger at each one.
