The experience
Pickup happens at 8 a.m. from your Hoi An hotel in a regular car, then you transfer to the restored U.S. Army Jeep once you reach Marble Mountain. The jeep holds up to four people total (driver plus three passengers), so the group stays small and the ride stays intimate. From there, the day moves through three distinct landscapes: first the caves and tunnels of Marble Mountain, which were used as a base during the Vietnam War; then the Hai Van Pass itself, a winding mountain road where you stop at the top to photograph the view; and finally the coastal stretch down to Lang Co Beach.
Lunch is local food at Lang Co Beach, one of Vietnam's longest stretches of white sand. After eating, you swim at Nhi Ho Water Falls, then visit a fishing village before the drive continues to your hotel in Hue. The whole tour runs seven to eight hours, and an English-speaking driver guides the route. All entrance fees and lunch are included. You bring swimwear and a willingness to sit in an open vehicle for several hours of driving.
The jeep itself is the defining detail here: restored but still an open-air ride, so you experience the humidity, the wind, the smell of the road in a way a closed car never delivers. It is not a comfortable lounge. It is exposure to the journey. Children from age three can join, though the long drive and the physical nature of the stops (caves to climb, water to swim in) mean families with very young kids should consider whether the day suits their pace.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want the journey itself to be the experience, not just the stops: the open-air jeep and the mountain roads are as much the point as the destinations. The seven- to eight-hour day and the physical nature of the sites (climbing, swimming, uneven terrain) suit travelers with at least moderate fitness who enjoy being outdoors and don't need a leisurely pace.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 7 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly is Marble Mountain and what do we do there?
Marble Mountain is named after the five elements of oriental philosophy (metal, wood, water, fire and earth), and features a system of caves and tunnels that served as a strategic base during the Vietnam War. You'll explore these caves during roughly an hour at the site.
Is the Hai Van Pass just a drive-through, or do we stop and spend time there?
You stop at the top of the Hai Van Pass to take photographs and take in the view. It's known as a dramatic mountain road, and the stop gives you time to step out of the jeep and see why.
Can we actually swim during this tour, or is it just a visit to the water?
Yes, swimming is included. You swim at Nhi Ho Water Falls after lunch at Lang Co Beach, so bring swimwear and a towel. The water stop is a genuine break in the day, not a quick photo stop.
How does the transfer from Hoi An to the jeep work at the start?
A car picks you up at your Hoi An hotel at 8 a.m. and drives you to Marble Mountain, where you transfer into the restored U.S. Army Jeep for the rest of the tour. The jeep then takes you all the way to your hotel in Hue at the end of the day.
Is lunch included, and what kind of food will we eat?
Yes, lunch is included at Lang Co Beach and consists of local Vietnamese food. The meal is part of the tour cost and happens before the swimming stop at Nhi Ho Water Falls.
