The Experience

The jeeps themselves carry the story. The owner rebuilt them from US military vehicles left behind after the American-Vietnam War, machines his father and family used to survive the Cambodia conflict in the 1980s. You ride in one of those restored fleet jeeps—either a vintage model or a modern air-conditioned SUV, your choice at checkout—on roads most tour buses never take. The guide is someone who lived through that history, not someone reading from a script, and the difference shows in how the day unfolds.

The route moves through countryside highlights: the Hindu Ponaga temple, fishing villages, a stone Gothic church, and a giant Buddha statue. Then comes Dien Khanh Citadel, once the capital of Khanh Hoa province, followed by the oldest Catholic church in the region. The jeep's open sides mean you're not watching through a window—you're in the air, turning your head to see what matters. Stops are flexible; if something catches your eye, you point and the driver pulls over so you can photograph or linger.

The war remnants section moves into terrain most visitors never reach. Hidden by a river junction in an area locals call Python Field, you'll see fighting bunkers, a blown-off bridge, and an enemy weapon workshop camouflaged inside what used to be a 100-year-old French rubber plantation. These sites sit in isolated territory, kept mostly unknown to younger travelers, and the guide's family lived through the battles that happened here. Beyond the historical sites, the jeep climbs into hill tribe villages where kids play in mud slides and wash in mountain streams. You'll pass sugar cane plantations and banana groves on the way to Suối Nguồn, a rocky river running through rainforest where you can swim or rest before lunch.

Lunch is a BBQ picnic by the riverside with beer, all arranged and included. The day ends with the drive back to the city center. All fees and taxes are covered in the price.

Is this one for you?Choose the vintage jeep if you want the tactile connection to the tour's wartime history and don't mind the open-air ride on rough roads; pick the modern SUV if you prefer air-conditioning and a smoother ride on a full day. Either way, groups stay small—3 to 4 per jeep—so you're not competing for views or stops like you would on a crowded bus.

Top questions

What's the difference between the vintage jeep and the modern SUV options on this tour?

The vintage jeep is a restored US military vehicle from the war era, offering an open-air experience tied to the tour's history. The modern SUV is air-conditioned and closed, better for travelers who prefer climate control on a 6- to 7-hour day. Both carry the same small group of 3-4 guests and follow the same route.

Will I actually swim in the river, or is that optional?

Suối Nguồn is a rocky river in the rainforest where you can swim or wade if you want to. The stop is built in so you can cool off, but jumping in is entirely your choice—some travelers just sit by the water and relax before lunch.

What are the war remnants sites actually like to visit?

The sites include fighting bunkers, a bridge destroyed during combat, and a hidden weapon workshop inside an old French rubber plantation, all located in isolated territory by a river junction. Your guide will explain what happened there because his family lived through those battles and the history is part of his own story.

Is this tour suitable for families with young children?

Yes, families travel on this tour regularly. Children enjoy the hill tribe villages, the river activities, and the open-air jeep ride. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. The operator notes the tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with poor cardiovascular health due to the rough roads and 6- to 7-hour duration.

How many people ride in each jeep?

Each jeep carries a maximum of 3 to 4 guests, which keeps the group small enough that everyone gets a good view and the driver can stop whenever someone wants to photograph or explore.

Does the tour include pickup from my hotel?

Yes, pickup is included. The guide will arrange the time and location when you book.
