Love Waterfall Canyoning is a four-hour adventure activity in Sapa where you trek to the top of a 100-meter waterfall in Hoang Lien National Park, then descend using ropes, jump from smaller cliffs and swim through the water to reach the base. The activity mixes scrambling, abseiling, cliff jumping and swimming. A guide leads in English, and all safety gear (wetsuit, helmet, harness, ropes and descenders) is provided. Children from age 14 are welcome, and pickup from town is available for an extra fee.

The experience

Canyoning combines rock climbing, rappelling and water activities into one sport. You start by trekking 3 kilometers uphill to the top of Love Waterfall, which sits 15 kilometers from Sapa town inside the ecological forest of Hoang Lien National Park. Along the way, you'll encounter two smaller waterfalls where you practice abseiling and jumping before tackling the main challenge: a 35-meter descent down Love Waterfall itself using static ropes, harness and descender.

The activity uses a mix of skills: scrambling over rocks, rigging ropes safely, controlling your descent on the rope, and swimming through pools and streams. You wear a 5mm neoprene wetsuit sized to fit, a helmet, and a harness clipped to the rope system. A guide leads the whole group in English, managing the rope setup and coaching you through each section. The smaller waterfalls at the start and end of the route give you chances to build confidence before the main rappel.

The four-hour outing ends once you've descended and swum to the base. Pickup from Sapa town costs $15 per person for a two-way trip by private car. The activity price itself applies to groups of two or more, with a $40 surcharge if you book alone and no other participants join.
