The walk starts at the Nine Dynastic Urns: nine bronze castings commissioned by Emperor Minh Mang in 1835 and placed in front of The Mieu Temple. These are among the most valuable bronze works of art in Vietnam, and your guide will explain why each one matters to the dynasty's story. From there you move through the Noon Gate, built in 1833 for royal ceremonies and troop movements, and past the Flag Tower, an architectural monument that still marks the royal court's presence on the citadel's south face.

Thai Hoa Palace is where the walk reaches its center. This is the coronation hall where all 13 Nguyen kings from Gia Long to Bao Dai were crowned, making it the ceremonial heart of the kingdom. Behind it lies the Forbidden Purple City, the residential compound first built by King Gia Long in 1804 and renamed in 1822. Here you'll see the Emperor's mother's residence, the Royal Library, Royal Lake, Royal Garden and Royal Theater: the spaces where daily life unfolded away from the public eye.
