The Experience

The jeep picks you up at your hotel at 8am and heads straight into Saigon's colonial core. You'll see the Saigon Central Post Office first—a landmark with distinctive French architecture that anchors the city's past—then move on to the Saigon Opera House, which stands as one of the most imposing sights in the city whether you're passing it by day or night. The route takes in Saigon City Hall and the Reunification Palace, a historical monument that witnessed the pivotal moments of the Vietnam War and remains one of Ho Chi Minh City's most recognizable buildings.

The War Remnants Museum is the centerpiece stop. The courtyard holds the larger exhibits—an F5A fighter jet and a UH1-Huey helicopter—that make the scale of the conflict immediate. Inside, the museum displays military equipment and artifacts from the war itself, offering a direct look at what the conflict left behind. This is not a light stop; the material is stark and the history is raw.

By 11am you arrive at Cơm Tấm Đỗ Phủ, a restaurant that has operated since 1946 in a space decorated to evoke pre-1975 Saigon. Lunch is traditional broken rice (cơm tấm), the dish the place is known for. The restaurant sits in what was once a Viet Cong ranger secret base; you'll see the old weapon armory and the storage areas where equipment was hidden during the war. An old Renault car on display once transported weapons. The meal and the setting together tell the story of how the city lived during the conflict. After lunch, the jeep returns you to your hotel.
