The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Hanoi hotel at 7:30am and a drive to Ninh Binh. By 9:30am you're at Cuc Phuong National Park, Vietnam's oldest, where the Endangered Primate Rescue Center introduces you to the park's conservation work with langurs, gibbons and other rare primates being rehabilitated there. The center sits at the entry point, so you move straight into the main event: a guided trek through the rainforest itself, where towering ancient trees, dense plant cover and living wildlife (primates, langurs, turtles, deer) occupy the same space you're walking through.
Lunch happens at noon at a local restaurant near the park (vegetarian options are available), then you head to Ninh Binh Bear Sanctuary in the early afternoon. The sanctuary holds rescued bears in a natural setting and runs an interactive exhibition that walks you through their rehabilitation and the broader challenges of wildlife protection in Vietnam. You get close views of the bears and time to absorb what their rescue involved. The drive back to Hanoi leaves at 3pm, with hotel drop-off around 5pm.
