The experience
The day starts with a pickup from your hotel around 7:30 AM, followed by a drive of about an hour and a half to the Ben Duoc tunnels. The less-crowded alternative to the main site. A rest stop breaks up the ride. Once there, a guide walks you through the remnants of the tunnel network: the secret bunkers where Vietnamese soldiers sheltered, the trapdoors and narrow passages they used. You'll watch a documentary that explains how people survived underground, then you get to crouch and crawl through sections yourself to feel the space they lived in. The tunnels show you the scale of what wartime meant in concrete terms: the confined quarters, the hidden entrances, the way an entire military operation ran beneath the ground.
Before leaving the site, you taste tapioca and tea, the staple rations soldiers ate during the war. Around noon the group heads back toward central Ho Chi Minh City and arrives at the War Remnants Museum. You have roughly an hour to move through it on your own, reading the information panels, viewing photographs and watching videos about the Vietnam War. An audio guide is available if you want one, though it costs extra. The museum is dense: many visitors spend more time than an hour there, so the free hour lets you choose what matters most to you. Drop-off at your hotel happens around 3:30 or 4 PM.
The group stays under ten people, which means the tunnels don't feel like a crowd experience and the guide can answer questions without rushing. Shooting is available at the site if you want it, but it's separate from the tour price and you pay for ammunition.
