The experience

The drive from Nha Trang to Dalat takes three hours and climbs into the Central Highlands, where the air cools noticeably and pine forests replace the coastal lowlands. Dalat sits 150 kilometers inland and was built by the French in the early 1900s as a mountain resort. The colonial buildings (mansions, churches, a railway station designed in 1932) still stand among the hills and lakes. Your guide meets you at your hotel at 7:30 a.m. on day one and walks you through the Crazy House, a rambling mansion that made international lists of the world's strangest buildings, then the old railway station and the Domain Church, a Catholic convent built in 1940. Lunch happens at a local restaurant in Dalat. You check into your hotel by late afternoon.

Day two starts at 7:15 a.m. with a four-hour drive to Mui Ne, a coastal town famous for its sand dunes. The red dunes come first. You slide down the slopes on surfboards, a physical moment most travelers do not expect. The Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien) cuts through the middle of the red dunes in a narrow channel. You walk it before lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon takes you to the white dunes, where ATV quad bikes are available for an extra fee, and a working grape farm. You leave Mui Ne around 5 p.m. and arrive back in Nha Trang by 7 p.m., with dinner included at a restaurant in town before the guide drops you at your hotel around 7:40 p.m.

The tour runs as a private car with a driver and guide for your group. The minimum is four passengers. All entrance fees, both lunches and beverages during the day are included. Your guide speaks English and can answer questions about the sites and the region. Children from age one are welcome, though the long driving days and the sand dune activities suit older children better. The itinerary is fixed, so all groups follow the same stops and timing.

Top questions

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (15 to 18 years); Child (5 to 10 years); Infant (1 to 3 years).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is the Crazy House and why is it on the tour?

The Crazy House is a sprawling mansion in Dalat built in an unconventional, maze-like style that earned it a place on international lists of the world's strangest buildings. It stands as one of Dalat's most recognizable landmarks and reflects the town's quirky character alongside its colonial heritage.

Can I slide down the sand dunes myself, or is it a demonstration?

You slide down the red dunes yourself using a surfboard. It is a hands-on activity, not a viewing stop. The white dunes on day two offer ATV quad bikes as an optional extra-cost activity if you want a different way to explore them.

How much driving is there over the two days?

Day one is a three-hour drive from Nha Trang to Dalat in the morning. Day two is a four-hour drive from Dalat to Mui Ne in the morning, then a three-hour return drive to Nha Trang in the late afternoon. The tour involves substantial time on the road, with sightseeing stops built into each day.

What meals are included, and are there dietary options?

Lunch is included on both days at local restaurants in Dalat and Mui Ne, plus dinner at a restaurant in Nha Trang on the evening of day two. Beverages are included throughout the day. Speak with the operator about dietary restrictions when you book.

Is there a minimum group size, and how many people fit in the car?

The minimum is four passengers per booking. The private car accommodates your group of four or more, with a driver and guide included for the entire two days.

What is the weather like in Dalat, and what should I pack?

Dalat sits in the Central Highlands and has a cooler climate than the coastal areas: around 18°C with high humidity. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the mountain air, comfortable walking shoes for the colonial sites, and sunscreen and a hat for the sand dunes. The red dunes can be dusty and the sand hot underfoot.
