The experience
The day starts with a minibus pickup from Vila at 8am, then a drive over jungle-clad hills to Havanah Harbour, where you board a tender to the boat. A guide runs through the safety talk before tea and coffee arrive with sweet buns. The first stop is Tranquility Island Resort itself. From there the boat heads to the first snorkeling spot with your gear already on board. If you'd rather not enter the water, the beach has shaded spots to swim and relax, and kayaking or a bush walk are options instead.
Lunch happens on the island: a grilled local steak with salads and fresh bread, with cold drinks available from the bar. After eating, there's a guided bush walk before the second snorkeling trip. Around 4pm you head back to the boat for afternoon tea and a fruit platter, then the tender returns you to the main boat for the ride back to the mainland. The minibus collects you and returns to Vila by 5:30pm.
The area sits in the rain shadow side of the island, which means more fine days than other parts of Vanuatu. Snorkeling gear is provided. You bring only your swimsuit and a towel. Children from age one are welcome, and vegetarian meals can be arranged if you request them when booking.
