The Experience

The Jeep is already running when you arrive at the Woodland Park location. Your guide walks you through the controls — how the roof panels come off, where the GPS mount sits, what the two-way radio does if you're traveling with another vehicle. It takes maybe fifteen minutes, and then you're driving. No itinerary handed down, no group waiting for stragglers. You point the Jeep toward the backcountry roads of Pike National Forest and go where the custom GPS maps suggest, or where you want to go. Four hours is yours to spend however you want.

The self-guided Jeep tour in Colorado means you set the pace. Stop for wildlife — elk, mule deer, the occasional mountain goat — without waiting for anyone else to finish their photos. The binoculars are in the Jeep. The National Forest maps are laminated and mounted. If you want to pull off at a scenic overlook and eat lunch, you eat lunch. If you want to find a local restaurant someone recommended, the GPS gets you there. The roads are backcountry but maintained, and the Jeep handles them. Winter? They provide sleds. Summer? Store those roof panels and drive under open sky with views of the Pikes Peak region unobstructed.

The team at Woodland Park stays available the whole time. You've got the two-way radio if you need help, and they've made sure you know how to operate everything before you leave. The Jeep comes with collision protection built in, so you're covered if something goes wrong. Minimum group size is two people — you can't rent solo — but that means you and a friend, or a family, or two couples splitting the cost. Groups of four or more should ask about discounts when you book.

You need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license and your own comprehensive auto insurance (the rental's collision waiver is secondary). No pets because of allergies and cleaning. When you arrive, they'll add your credit or debit card to the booking to cover the damage waiver. Then you drive.
