The experience
The tour starts in DUMBO and moves through neighborhoods that shifted from abandoned warehouses and industrial sites to thriving arts and culture hubs after 2005 zoning changes. You'll cycle under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, past the first Protestant church in Brooklyn, and through the newly redeveloped park beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The route takes in the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, where you get sweeping views of Lower Manhattan from the first preserved area in the country.
Domino Park anchors the middle stretch: built on the site of the world's largest sugar refinery, it now offers views of Manhattan and the Williamsburg Bridge. From there the tour moves into Williamsburg itself, the hip bars and shops of the neighborhood's current incarnation, then passes through parks with Civil War monuments and one of NYC's first Polish churches. You'll also see Roosevelt Island's hidden water treatment plant gardens, a spot most visitors never find.
A local guide leads the whole route and can point you toward a brewery stop or a coffee break depending on the group's pace. The tour ends back in DUMBO where it started. Bring a moderate level of fitness. The ride is described as easy but covers ground over 2.5 hours.
