The experience
You meet your captain at Gandy boat ramp, a 15-minute drive from most Tampa locations, with ample parking and restrooms. The captain walks you through the day's plan, helps you board, and then navigates the bay system based on what's happening that day. Old Tampa Bay, the main bay channel, the flats, and the backcountry mangrove shorelines each hold different species at different times of year, and your captain knows which water to fish and when.
The boat carries all the rods, reels, tackle and safety gear you need. Your fishing license is included. You're fishing for whatever is active: snook and redfish in the shallows, spotted seatrout in the deeper channels, tarpon during their seasonal run through Passage Key Inlet, snapper, sheepshead, cobia and Spanish mackerel depending on the month. The captain handles the technical work (reading tides, adjusting technique, moving to new water when conditions shift), while you fish. A 4-hour charter covers the core fishing grounds. A 6-hour trip gives you time to explore multiple zones and stay longer on productive water.
The charter ends at the same Gandy ramp where you started. Bring sunscreen and a hat. The boat has no shade structure, and the sun reflects hard off the water. Food and drinks are not provided, so pack what you'll need for the hours on the water.

Is this one for you?A private charter means your captain adjusts the entire day around what you want to fish and what's biting, rather than following a fixed itinerary with other anglers. If you want to stay on one productive flat or move quickly between multiple zones based on the tide, the captain makes that call for you.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What species can I expect to catch on a Tampa Bay inshore charter?
Snook, redfish and spotted seatrout are the most common targets year-round. Tarpon run through the bay seasonally, particularly through Passage Key Inlet. Depending on the month and conditions, you may also catch snapper, sheepshead, cobia, Spanish mackerel and sharks. Your captain adjusts the target species based on what's active that day.
Where does the boat launch and how far is it from Tampa?
The boat launches from Gandy boat ramp by the docks, which is about 15 minutes from most Tampa locations. The ramp has ample parking and restrooms. Your captain meets you there and brings you back to the same spot when the charter ends.
What's included in the charter price?
All fishing rods, reels, tackle and safety equipment are provided; your Florida fishing license is included; bottled water is on board; and the licensed captain's expertise is part of the package. You do not need to bring or rent any fishing gear.
Should I book the 4-hour or 6-hour charter?
A 4-hour charter covers the main fishing grounds and works well if you want a morning or afternoon outing. A 6-hour charter gives you time to fish multiple zones and stay longer on productive water when the bite is good. Both are available as morning departures at 7am or afternoon departures at 2pm.
What should I bring and what shouldn't I count on?
Bring sunscreen, a hat and polarized sunglasses. The sun reflects intensely off the water. Pack food and drinks for the hours you'll be on the water, as none are provided. The boat has no shade structure or on-board restroom, so plan accordingly.
