Sunset paddle and fireworks viewing

  • Paddle on Halifax River
  • View wildlife like dolphins and manatees
  • Pass by Jackie Robinson Ballpark
  • Watch sunset from the river
  • Enjoy fireworks show from the water

The experience

The Halifax River is over 25 miles long and runs through Daytona with some of the best sunsets on the East Coast of Florida. The kind you won't see on the beach itself. You paddle a kayak or stand-up paddleboard with a guide who knows exactly where the wildlife congregates: dolphins, manatees, sea turtles and more move through these waters year-round. The operator has been running this route for over 17 years, so the timing and the positioning are built on real knowledge of what shows up when.

As the sun drops, you'll paddle past the Jackie Robinson Ballpark and statue, the historic site where Jackie Robinson played his first major league game and where the 2013 film "42" was shot. Once darkness falls and the fireworks begin (Friday and Saturday nights through late September), the guide positions everyone for the best view from the water. Watching fireworks from a kayak is a different thing entirely from watching them from land or a crowded beach.

The whole paddle takes two hours. You get paddles, kayaks, life vests and paddleboards included. The exact meeting location is shared when you book. Tours run every night the weather cooperates, though the fireworks themselves are only scheduled for Friday and Saturday, so call ahead if you're hoping to catch them on another night or want to know about additional events.
