The Experience

The van picks you up from your Santa Rosa or Healdsburg hotel around mid-morning. You're in a group of no more than twelve, which means the whole thing stays conversational — not a cattle call through tasting rooms. Your guide knows the smaller producers around Sonoma County and has relationships with them, so there's none of that "here's your pour, here's the next one" feeling. At the second winery, you open the charcuterie box that was made for your group — cheese, salami, apples, grapes, dried fruit, almonds. The whole Sonoma County wine tasting tour runs five to seven hours depending on traffic and how long you linger. Water is plentiful — they know you're tasting all day. One thing to know upfront: the wineries charge their own tasting fees, and those aren't included in your tour price.
