The experience
You start in the plaza in front of the Palace of the Governors (the oldest public building in the US), where your guide gives a brief history of how Santa Fe began. From there you walk to your first dinner stop, passing the Basilica built in 1866 and the Scottish Rite Temple, completed in 1912. The route covers 1.5 to 2 miles total, and the guide talks about the city's food, culture and historical points of interest as you move between courses.
Each stop is a course: full dinner, wine pairings, and dessert are all included, along with non-alcoholic drinks. Gratuity for your servers is built in. You choose whether to tip your guide separately. The tour is designed as an upscale experience, whether you're booking it as a couple, with family, friends or co-workers. Because this is a locally owned and operated company (the only food tour outfit in Santa Fe that is), the stops and the stories behind them reflect the people who actually run the city.
Tours sell out, so book ahead. You'll need to be in good walking condition and have at least moderate fitness to cover the distance and the pace. Wheelchair-accessible routes and surfaces are available, and service animals are welcome.
