Now it sits permanently docked at San Diego's waterfront, and you can walk the same 4-acre deck where pilots launched and landed aircraft, explore the engine room, climb into restored Navy planes, and listen to the people who were actually there tell you what it was like. The audio tour is narrated by former Midway sailors and officers, so you're not just reading plaques; you're hearing the real story from someone who lived it.

The self-guided format means you move at your own pace through the hangar deck, officer's country, sleeping quarters, and galleys — you can linger over the flight simulators or move through quickly if you want. There are more than 30 restored aircraft on display, and the museum includes interactive exhibits and climb-aboard planes for kids and adults. The 360-degree view of downtown San Diego and the bay is one of those views that stops you mid-sentence.
