The experience
The trip starts at the shop in downtown Riggins, then a five-minute drive takes you to the put-in. You get fitted with a PFD, splash top and helmet, then the guide walks through a paddling orientation so you know what to expect on the water. The half-day is built to start easy: mellow whitewater gives you a chance to find your balance before the group hits the bigger rapids at Time Zone Bridge, where the real adrenaline kicks in.
Between the hard sections you float, swim and relax. The guide pulls over partway for a snack break and time to skip rocks or wade in the shallows. More rapids follow downstream, each one pushing the energy higher. As you approach the takeout, the final stretch flattens out. This is when most people hop into the river in their PFD and float along the canyon walls, splash whoever is nearby, or just sit with the moment. A ten-minute van ride back to the shop ends the day.
You choose whether to paddle yourself in an inflatable kayak or ride in the raft with your family and friends. Either way, the guide leads the group, all river gear is provided, and the van transport to and from the put-in is included. BLM land use fees are covered in the price.
