The experience
You're standing in the lobby of Radio City Music Hall, and the doors to the theater are already opening. The Christmas Spectacular runs 90 minutes, and it starts with the stage itself transforming: the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers alone is worth the trip, but then there's Santa's sleigh ride to the North Pole, the Living Nativity, and over 140 performers moving across a stage that feels like it's built for exactly this kind of spectacle. The Rockettes are there, the original score plays, and the whole thing has been a New York holiday tradition for decades. You'll get your show tickets by email three to five days before, and seats are assigned after booking: no obstructed views in the house.
After the show ends, depending on what time your performance was, you head to the Empire State Building. If you caught an early show (4 PM or earlier), your timed entry to the 86th Floor Observation Deck is scheduled for around 6:30 or 7:30 PM, which means you're watching the city light up at dusk, the whole skyline turning gold and then dark blue. If your show was later, you go up in the morning or early afternoon instead. Either way, the observation deck is the highest open-air 360-degree view in New York, and it's heated, so you're not freezing while you're up there. The Grand Staircase has a two-story model of the building itself, and the interactive galleries on the second floor walk you through the Empire State Building's history and its place in pop culture: the King Kong scenes, the movies, all of it.
The logistics are handled: your timed entry slot is locked in for the same day as your show, so there's no second trip, no figuring out when to go. You pass through airport-style security to get to the Observatory: leave the glass items and luggage at the hotel. All the signage and audio guides are available in nine languages, and if you need a wheelchair space in the theater, you contact the local partner ahead of time to reserve it. Children under two don't need a seat ticket and ride free.
What’s included
