The experience

The tour starts with a scenic drive into the Columbia River Gorge, a landscape of lush forests, basalt cliffs, and cascading water. Your guide will take you to Vista House first, an observation point with expansive views of the river and gorge below, then down to Latourell Falls: a 249-foot drop framed by striking basalt columns reachable by a short 0.6-mile loop trail. From there you move through a series of waterfalls: a charming two-tiered cascade at Bridal Veil Falls (or Wahkeena Falls if parking requires it), a 242-foot plunge at Wahkeena Falls (or Bridal Veil, depending on the day), and Horsetail Falls, where the water drops into a natural pool at its base.

Multnomah Falls is the anchor of the day: Oregon's tallest waterfall at 620 feet, with an upper drop of 542 feet and a lower cascade of 69 feet. A short, easy walk leads to the Benson Bridge, a famous vantage point for photos. The historic Multnomah Falls Lodge, built in 1925, sits at the base of the falls and serves lunch with views of the cascade and the surrounding forest. The entire tour runs 4 to 5 hours and is built for just you or a companion. If you're traveling with a small group, the operator uses a Toyota Grand Highlander instead of the Mercedes Sprinter. Seasonal snacks and refreshments come throughout the day, and your guide speaks English or Spanish and can adjust the stops if you have other interests.

The tour is wheelchair accessible at most stops, though some optional spots require stairs. Trekking poles are available if you want them for the short hikes. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are in the vehicle. Service animals are welcome. The route follows the Historic Columbia River Highway, and parking is managed by the operator, so you don't arrange it yourself.
