The experience

The boat departs from Point State Park, where you'll get a group photo with the fountain and the city skyline behind you, then heads out onto the three rivers that define Pittsburgh's geography. Your captain knows the city in depth and will narrate the sights as you pass them: PNC Park, rated the best ballpark in the league for its riverfront setting and built in 2001 with a retro look; Heinz Field, the 68,400-seat stadium home to the six-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers; the Carnegie Science Center, one of the world's largest green-certified buildings designed to look like a cruise ship hanging over the water. The boat also passes the green space and waterfall walkway of the Science Center's riverfront side.

The signature moment is cruising under the three sister bridges: identical structures over 100 years old and the only place in the world where you can pass under all three at once. At night they're lit up, and the rivers glow. You'll also pass under the Philip Murray Bridge, named after the first United Steelworkers union president, and spot the iconic dino-geese painted at the top of the pier. The whole route takes 90 minutes and covers all the major landmarks without rushing.

You control the mood. If you want the guided narrative, your captain delivers it. If you'd rather sit back with your own music, food and drinks, bring whatever you like aboard, the captain will let you enjoy the sights on your terms. The boat has been running since 2008 and works equally well for couples on a sunset cruise, families, or a group of friends wanting to show off the city from the water.
