The experience

The tour starts in Old Town Scottsdale and immediately connects to the Greenbelt bike path, which hugs golf courses, parks and the edge of Tempe Lake. The e-bike handles the gradual climbs and descents as you pass the Tempe Marina and ride toward Papago Park. The landscape shifts noticeably once you enter the park: the smooth concrete path winds through a rocky, maroon-colored frisbee golf course where roadrunners often appear.

Ahead, an oddly placed pyramid sits on a hilltop: Hunt's Tomb, the burial site of Arizona's first governor. From there, the route heads toward the Hole in the Rock. You'll leave your bike with the guide and walk about 5 minutes up the trail to reach the ancient lookout point, which doubles as a photo stop. After descending, you ride past the back side of the Desert Botanical Gardens and then along the canals toward Old Town, a stretch unique to the area. The final leg offers views of Camelback Mountain as you return to where you started.
