You’ll step straight into Victorian London at Escape Room Palm Springs, hunting for clues as Scotland Yard tries to catch Jack the Ripper. With your private group (no strangers), you’ll solve puzzles together, laugh at missteps, and maybe even get stumped by clever twists. The experience is accessible for all ages and abilities — just bring your curiosity and a sense of humor.
We pushed open the heavy door at Escape Room Palm Springs and suddenly it felt like we’d slipped down an alley in old London — not exactly what I expected on a hot California afternoon. The air inside was cool and smelled faintly of something dusty, maybe old books or leather. Our host (I think her name was Jamie?) handed us our Scotland Yard badges and grinned like she knew we were in for it. She told us not to trust every clue — “Jack’s clever,” she said — and for a second I actually believed her.
I’ve done a couple of escape rooms before but this Jack the Ripper escape room was something else. There were these creaky floorboards underfoot and one wall had fake grime you could actually feel if you brushed your hand across it (I did, by accident). We split up to search for evidence — my brother got way too into his detective role, muttering about suspects while my mom tried to decode some Victorian handwriting. Every time we solved something, there’d be this little click or secret compartment popping open. At one point I laughed so hard when my friend tried to pronounce “Whitechapel” with a fake British accent that I almost missed a clue hidden behind an old newspaper clipping.
The best part? No strangers in our group — just us, which made it less awkward when someone (me) panicked over a red herring. The staff checked in through an old-timey speaker if we got stuck, but mostly let us flounder around on our own. It’s funny how quickly you forget you’re in Palm Springs when you’re racing against the clock with your family yelling out theories about Jack the Ripper. We didn’t crack the case in time but honestly, I still think about that last locked box and what we missed.
