The experience

You arrive with a charged phone and headphones (for walking) or a car with speakers, download the app, and start the audio story. Jade guides you through a mission to rescue Uncle Marv's baby monsters and defeat a villain named Jesss, with Hollywood-caliber audio bursts that set the tone at each stop. The game works on a driving map if you want to cover ground faster, or a walking map if you prefer to move through neighborhoods on foot. Either way, you tackle puzzles and answer questions designed for ages 7 and up, and the app tracks your Recruit Score so your group can compete to see who becomes the ultimate M.I.A. recruit.

Before you start, you'll get emailed app-download instructions and two short prep videos (a backstory and a gameplay tutorial), so you can arrive ready to play. The built-in GPS map gives you optional turn-by-turn directions if you need them, and customer service help is available if you get stuck. You move at your own pace, which means you can pause, linger at a stop, or speed through depending on how your group feels.
