Haystack Rock rises just offshore—a 235-foot basalt sea stack formed by lava flows over 15 million years ago, claimed to be the third tallest intertidal structure in the world. You'll walk the sandy beach, watch birds circle the rock, and if the tide is out, explore tide pools full of marine life. The town itself is small enough to browse on foot, with several eateries scattered along the main street where you can grab lunch on your own. The afternoon heads south on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway. A stop at Neahkahnie Overlook gives you the highest drive-able viewpoint on the Oregon coast.
