Manhattan skyline glows at sunset from the water as city lights flicker on

You’ll watch Manhattan’s skyline shift from gold to neon as you cruise past icons like Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on a small yacht at sunset. Sip your included cocktail (or Champagne), snack on charcuterie, and feel that rare quiet settle in while city lights flicker on around you.

Step-by-step itinerary

New York City sunset yacht cruise

  • Depart from Chelsea Piers
  • See Empire State Building from water
  • Cruise along NYC waterways at sunset
  • View Manhattan skyline
  • Pass One World Trade Center
  • Pass Ellis Island
  • See Statue of Liberty up close

The Experience

“Is that really the Empire State Building over there?” someone asked as we pulled away from Chelsea Piers, and honestly, I had to squint — the light was doing that golden thing where everything feels softer. The boat was smaller than I pictured (in a good way), with maybe a dozen of us scattered between the open bow and this cozy glass cabin. Our captain, who introduced himself as Mike but said we could call him “Cap,” pointed out little details about the buildings — like how One World Trade Center catches the last sun. You could hear the low hum of the city behind us, but mostly it was just water slapping gently against the hull and people quietly clinking glasses.

I picked a seat near the window because I didn’t want to miss anything (plus, my hair does weird things in wind). The charcuterie tray came out right after our first round of drinks — I went for a gin cocktail that tasted like cucumber and something floral. There was this faint salt smell from the Hudson, mixed with whatever cheese they’d put out. At some point, Cap slowed down by Ellis Island so we could get photos. Someone tried to tell a story about their grandparents coming through there, but got choked up halfway through — nobody pushed them to finish. That moment stuck with me more than any photo.

When we finally drifted toward the Statue of Liberty, everyone shuffled outside even though it had gotten chilly. The light was fading fast and Lady Liberty looked almost unreal up close — greenish against all that blue and gold. I tried to take a selfie but ended up just watching for a minute instead. It’s funny how quiet people get when they’re actually seeing something they’ve only ever imagined before. Then someone made a joke about dropping their phone overboard and everyone laughed too loud for a second.

What’s included
