The experience

The tour starts with the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, a circa-1823 apothecary now displaying early medicines and the superstitious cures people once relied on. From there you move into the bars and cafes that shaped the French Quarter: Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, dimly lit and one of the oldest bars around, serving drinks since the 1700s; Pirate's Alley Cafe, built to honor the pirates who walked these streets and brought their goods and cultures to the port; Tujague's, a 160-year-old Creole dining institution; and Ryan's Irish Pub, where locals gather for beer and cocktails. One drink is included with your ticket, and you choose where to use it.

The two-hour pace means you're not rushing through each stop, but you're also not settling in for a long sit-down meal.
