The Experience

The tour starts at Jackson Square with a view of St. Louis Cathedral, then moves through the French Quarter before heading into neighborhoods most visitors miss. You'll see Faubourg Marigny, the area featured in the TV show Treme, and drive through the upper 9th Ward to understand the visible aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The bus is air-conditioned and a licensed guide narrates the whole route in English.

Depending on which departure you choose, you'll enter one of two above-ground cemeteries—St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 on the 9am and 12:30pm tours, or the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery on the 4pm tour. Both are working burial grounds where the guide explains New Orleans' distinctive above-ground burial style. After that comes a stop at Café Du Monde for beignets and coffee (at your own expense), then a pass by the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park before heading into the Garden District.

The Garden District leg includes Magazine Street, known for shopping and restaurants, and a stop at Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 with its own history. The route covers some of Marie Laveau's ritual sites and passes the Mother-in-Law Lounge.
