Step-by-step itinerary

Haunted Nashville walking tour

  • Meet Victorian costume tour guide
  • Learn ghost stories of Hermitage Hotel
  • Walk to Tennessee State Capitol
  • Explore Capitol grounds and hear ghost tales
  • Visit oldest church, St. Mary’s
  • Discover Printer’s Alley ghost stories
  • Tour Ryman Auditorium haunted history

The Experience

We followed the flickering lantern through downtown Nashville, trying to keep up with our guide — she looked like she’d stepped out of an old photograph, all buttoned-up Victorian dress and a sly grin. The first thing I noticed was the way her voice bounced off the stone walls outside the Hermitage Hotel, telling us about the Lady in White. I swear, for a second, I caught a whiff of some old perfume on the breeze — probably just my imagination (or maybe not?). She showed us how to angle our phones for “ghost photos,” but mostly I ended up with blurry shots and one accidental selfie.

We drifted toward the Tennessee State Capitol after that, still half-laughing at someone’s nervous joke about being watched. The ground felt colder there, or maybe it was just the stories about President Polk’s tomb and soldiers buried in the walls. Our guide pointed out where Rachel Jackson is supposed to linger — I tried to picture her pacing in those shadows while traffic hummed by just yards away. There was this weird hush for a minute as we passed St. Mary’s church, like even the city noise paused for that part.

Printer’s Alley was next — neon signs buzzing overhead, and our guide weaving tales of speakeasies and Skull Schulman’s murder like she’d lived it herself. Some folks peeked out from bars as we passed; one guy raised his beer and shouted something about ghosts joining him for a drink. The last stop was Ryman Auditorium, all lit up against the night sky. Hearing about Hank Williams and Patsy Cline haunting those halls gave me chills (the good kind). I still think about that view of the empty stage windows glowing above us — it felt like we were standing in two Nashvilles at once.
