The Experience
The Edison Explorer leaves Tin City Waterside Shops and heads out toward the Gulf of Mexico, giving you ninety minutes to watch the light change over the water. Along the way, the captain narrates the history and ecology of what you're passing—the mansions of Port Royal, where some of the most expensive homes in Florida sit on the waterfront; Keewaydin Island; and the wildlife that moves through these shallows. Dolphins, manatees (seasonal), and a variety of birds show up regularly enough that the captain knows where to look.
You're free to move around the boat to chase the light and find your angle. The deck space means you can shift from one side to the other as the sun moves, or settle into a spot to watch without the pressure of a fixed seat. Drinks are available for purchase if you want something in hand as the sky turns orange and the water reflects it back.
The cruise returns to Tin City, where the shops and three restaurants stay open if you want to extend the evening on land. Fifth Avenue South, Naples's main street for dining and browsing, is also within reach if you want to keep moving after you're back on solid ground.
